Dear colleagues and readers,

The age distribution in Germany will undergo considerable changes during the coming years. Between 2008 and 2030 the number of 65-year-olds will increase from 18.4 % to 25.7 %. Although oral health studies (DMS III/1997 and DMS IV/2005) have shown a noticeable reduction in the DMFT index from 23.6 to 21.1, the need for dental treatment is on the increase. At the same time, in patients aged 65+ the number of periodontal diseases requiring treatment is increasing.

birthday party

My committee colleagues and I are very pleased about the enormous interest shown in our congress planned for 27th – 29th November this year. This traditional date, coinciding with the first weekend of Advent, makes it the climax and conclusion of the implantological educational year. It’s no coincidence that so far great interest has been shown in our convention being held in Düsseldorf, Germany, as Professor Dr. Frank Schwarz, who is both president of the congress and vice-president of our association, has put together an exciting, excellent program with renowned lecturers. The motto is: “Rethinking implantology – what’s to come, what’ll be left”.
